Bar Spice - Apothecary

Already homemade tinctures waiting to be bottled.
Pomegranate, pine, wormwood, grapefruit and coffee bitters
Tincture - a concerted alcoholic extract of a single botanical, the substance can  then be used to blend together to create Bitters.
Bitters – a blend of tinctures that creates a specific flavored aromatic cocktail spice; it was originally used as digestifs or for medicinal purposes.
When I graduate, I will have a fully operational company. “Bar Spice, Apothecary” is a working name. The company produces small tinctures or liquid spices which can be blended to generate bitters that flavor cocktails. Right now you can either buy bitters or buy bitter kits that allow you to make one recipe. For example, Bitterman’s Chocolate Mole‘ bitters costs $18.99 for a 4 oz bottle of liquid.  My goal is to create a company that offers people more options for the home bar by providing people with a variety of tinctures and recipes so that they can blend and experiment with their own home bitters kit.
Some bottles I'm looking at using for my final
product. I may possible find someone to
blow costume glass for the final.

My goal has three parts; design, production and organizational. I’ve decided to spend at least four hours a week on each department. This will help the project as a whole move along and keep my three part project balanced for 17 more weeks.  The design aspect will provide me the chance to create a brand, packaging, recipe cards and display cases for Bar Spice. I want to experiment with different shaped glass bottles with eye droppers, create boxes which can hold up to 24 liquid vials, funnels, and mixing jars, along with the recipe cards.
The next part includes production, I’ve already begin creating a variety of tinctures, including; lemon grass, coffee, grapefruit, basil, sassafras, fennel, anise and wormwood. This is a lengthy and long process that I cannot wait until last minute to produce because the spice require weeks of absorption by the base spirit. Then I can begin experimenting with blending and creating recipes. The recipes will be a key part of this company. People will want them just as much as the tinctures.

Lastly, I will need to get this business operational, find some extra funds, and find a place to sell my goods. This is probably the most boring aspect but the one that’s going to make all the hard work worth my time. I don’t expect to make lot’s of money with my company, however, I think it shows I can start a company, create a brand identity, and produce a unique product that no one else to doing. This creative mindset and hard work I can only imagine will be valued when I’m looking for jobs next year.
