Why am i a designer

Why am i a designer?

Design is a different way of communication that comes in many different forms. I am a designer because i love a creative challenge. Theres something exciting about the feeling of creating something that receives a positive feedback from your piers and the public. Theres is also so much freedom given to a designer. Being a creative designer is so much more of a challenge, but its an exciting challenge. I don't think there are many other careers paths where you can physically see your hard work displayed. I also strongly agree with the fact that design improves society. It makes things pleasing to look, and at easier to understand. If we lived in a world that had poor design i truly believe that creative people would be depressed.

Something that has caught my eye within the last 6 months is the growth, and simple user friendly design of SnapChat. SnapChat if you haven't already downloaded it on your phones is a social networking app that allows friends to send pictures for a period of 10 seconds and then the picture is gone forever. This company is small but growing rapidly. In the beginning Facebook offered to buy them for 3 billion dollars, SnapChat declined and is now worth 10 billion dollars. I take interest in this topic because i think coming out of college and working for a small start up tech company creates so much potential to grow. The simple illustration style of the SnapChat interface is a design style that i can relate to. Illustration is one of my stronger design skills.

I design because i am so fascinated with experimenting with new techniques, and to make awesome pieces of work. Self gratification is a good feeling, and I am proud that i have gotten the creative gene. There are so many doors for designers because everyone needs something designed, that the possibilities are endless.

Design also gives me the opportunity to make people laugh. A lot of people would describe as a funny, quirky person with a spirited personality. When i design things i love to add in a subtle hint of laughter. I don't always want that to be the forefront of my design but in the subtle details i love adding in hints of my personality to make people smile.
