Why I am a Designer,
I’m a Middle Eastern girl and in Middle East every parent
tell their children what they want them to be when they grow up, so my parents
want me to be a doctor and I studied science a lot, but I used to draw and
paint and create designs for dresses and accessories and wall designs in any
free time I have. I started feeling that creating designs makes me happy always
and I really used to enjoy my time doing a lot of designs and never got tired.
When my family and I moved to United States I was senior in
high school, and I saw how everyone in school pick their own classes and study
what they love. Therefore, I started thinking of taking design class to have an
idea about design in America and I fall in love with the class, but at the same
time I didn’t want my mom to be upset and chose to be a designer instead of
being a doctor. So, I went to college and I told my mom that I would be
pharmacist because I didn’t want to study for too long to be a doctor and I did
some job shadowing in a pharmacy and I liked it. Moreover, I finished most of
my pre-pharmacy classes and still I used to create design and do some art and
take designs and art classes as elective classes and couldn’t enjoy any science
class as much as I used to enjoy the design classes I took. So, I decided that I
should pick what I like and enjoy to study because if I like what I’m doing I
will be really good at it. And I switched my major to graphic design and my mom
wasn’t happy at the beginning, but she started realizing that being a graphic designer
is what fits my personality and what make me happy a lot.
Finally, I’m a designer because I feel that we need designs
everywhere, design is what I see first in any place, website, clothes,
products, food, etc. Design is the strongest way that I have to express my
feeling and to make me deliver any message that I want to deliver to
people.
