Koosmann - Capstone Proposal

Proposal:
For my capstone project I will be creating a book about college. It will be somewhat of a college survival guide. Passing on what I have learned to future college goers. It will be geared toward woman as it will be from my perspective. My goal for this project is to make someones transition into college a little bit easier. My hope is that this book will be informative but in such a way that it is like talking to your somewhat wiser older sister.

For my capstone I wanted to do create something that would last. I wanted to help people with something that I had experienced. Although, I didn't want it to be to specific. I thought about what It was like coming into college and thinking "okay now what?" "What the hell do I do now?" I knew there were countless books out there about how to get through your freshman year and how to make your college experience count. But for me, they were not what I wanted to spend my time reading or spend my money buying. These books were to formal, to textbook like. I wanted to read something from I could relate too. To feel like I was getting information from someone who had actually gone through the experience themselves rather then someone who had done research and surveys and case studies in order to get their information. I want this book to be personable.

I plan to touch on topics such as food, fashion, decorating your apartment, time management, what to do on your first day of classes, how to study, how to make friends, how to keep from killing your roommate, how to get an internship, and how to stay healthy mentally and physically. I plan to incorporate all of my own knowledge and experience as well as well researched information about each topic when need be.

I plan to write all of the copy as well as take all of the pictures for the book. I want to push myself creatively. I do not want the entire book to be just text written in Adobe InDesign and photos. I want to go out of the box and use illustrations (i.e. drawn and painted) as well as things I will designed in Adobe Illustrator. I want this book to be inspiring.

This book is very well designed in my opinion. It also has very beautiful photographs. This will help me to consistently create professional photographs.
