Why am I a designer?

I am a designer because it is a career that branches out to many areas in the real world, and with the many media options to design from it is always ways to do something new and to learn new ways of designing. I design because I like the challenge of adapting different aesthetics to fit a particular project.  I design because it can be a collaborative field most of the time, and I always find it interesting and exciting to hear other peoples ideas, and get to work together by putting those ideas together. In addition to that, being a designer gives you the freedom to do freelance work as well. Being a designer grants you the option of designing for yourself personally and/or designing for clients or companies etc. You could design art for galleries, or gain a client and design a brand.

I also design because rather than fine art I could lend my skill and experience to people who desire it in a professional setting and be able to make a living. It was a practical decision for me to change my major to focus on design rather than studio art while in a second year in school. Instead of spending all this money to study art and create art that I most likely will not be able make a living from, why not go into graphic design where i can still dabble in fine art while also creating designs for clients and get paid for it.

Essentially it’s a career where anything can happen, rules can be broken; it is always evolving, and artistically engaging. I couldn’t imagine doing anything other than design.
