Koosmann - Why am I a Designer?

I have always appreciated information that is presented in an exciting, comprehensible, and aesthetically pleasing way. I have always been a visual person and have always known that I wanted to do something creative. Art was my favorite subject in school and i was not interested in any of the core subjects.

I first became interested in design through fashion magazines like ELLE, Nylon, Vogue, and Teen Vogue. I never bought them for the informative interviews or the advice articles. I bought them for the beautiful photography and design. I was interested in how they presented information in an creative and unique way each month, I appreciate the originality of each month. I was jealous of their creative eye, skills and original ideas. Witnessing their skills and new ideas each month made me want to push myself to know their skills and create my own ideas. The photographers and designers inspired me to gain as much knowledge as I could about photography and design.

I wanted to create something that would inspire people the same way the photographs and design work inspired me. I majored in Art Media, and Design hoping to become a photographer. However, although i love photography I realized that I was only learning to create one type of art. I wanted to be able to do more then take pictures. So, i changed my major to graphic design. This major allows me to learn and produce multiple types of art. I like to think that I involves a little bit of everything.

Since being in college, I’ve learned about design and what it can do for people. Good design gets people’s attention and engages them, involves them. While bad design more often then not goes unnoticed. Good design can change the world by displaying something that people want to look at and be informed by. I believe that if not for graphic design or design in general the world would be a literal black and white world. We would live in a very dull and uninspiring world.  Therefore, I want to inspire and create work that will be noticed. I am a designer because I want to bring people information that is exciting. I want to create and inspire, and be inspired by beautiful works of art.
