Capstone Proposal

Thesis Proposal

The academic and autobiographical events that I am connecting to my thesis project would be learning about the color theory in my elementary school art class. As a child, art was my favorite subject and I still have the folder of all of my work, which I think can serve as an interesting and personal component of discovery to my thesis project. I would like to incorporate some of these pieces in the final installation or by possibly scanning them and including them in a publication.
Aside from this concept, I also plan to connect my thesis to both science and psychology by discussing how we perceive color as humans and how each color evokes specific emotion within us. This is important because color is an interesting and misunderstood part of our every day lives and we do not pay attention to the affects that different colors have on us. Even the idea of how we actually see and perceive color is a complex system and I am intrigued on researching and learning more about this process and the meaning behind each individual color. As a designer it is expected that we know and understand color inside and out.

For the final product of my thesis project I am thinking to compile all of my research and weekly work in to a publication or having large-scale posters of each individual color projected on to the wall. Another option would be to make it an interactive piece having each color with its own book hanging on the wall and only when you open it is when you learn about what the color means and the emotions it represents. I plan on incorporating all different aspects of design with mostly illustrations and typography. I want viewers to look at this thesis project from an educational perspective
