Why Design. - Chris Solorzano

I've always had a interest in making art that matters and can serve a purpose. Graphic design to me is a civil service and I view it as my responsibility to inform the public about important matters. The best graphic design to me is the design that is in instruction manuals, hospitals, education and similar fields. I do enjoy making art but art as just art, doesn't really serve a universal purpose. Science combined with art is what can solve problems of this world and teach people the importance of living fulfilling lives.

Growing up I was always fascinated by good design but I didn't know why. My love for design started beside my obsession with music and the album artwork that accompanied my favorite albums. However, graphic design goes beyond making things look pretty. In the future, I would love to do design for the education, medical and government field. I would like to help underprivileged children, help people understand good health and eventually teach prison inmates graphic design software. All that type of work isn't necessarily art nor is it something that you would call beautiful, but it's design that helps and that's what I want to do with my graphic design degree, help.

So in conclusion, I am designer because I want people to have a better life and make the most out of their existence on Earth.
