The project that I’m going to make
is called “Art on the Egg”. Why am I choosing
this topic? Since I was young, I almost see eggs every day, because my
grandmother owning an egg’s factory and my mom working at there. She brought me
to the factory everyday. When I was 6 years old, it’s just a small farm. With
the growth of the farm, it has become a factory which specializing in the
production of eggs. So that I want to design a project that related to EGG to express
my respect and admiration for my grandmother and my mom. They can put it at
their office or factory to have fun to look at it. And I said my interest is
fashion design, but graphic design will be my career. My grandmother’s company
spent a lot of money on posters, booklets, and packaging design every year.
Now, I am learning the knowledge of graphic design from the United States and
seeing a lot of great design around every corner of the streets. After I
graduate, I think I can go back to China to help them to design these things.
The other reason that I chose this topic
is I did not see anyone made this before. It’s a novel and creative project for
me. I like drawing stuffs but I never officially learn how to draw, which is a
big challenge for me. The most interesting class that I’ve ever taken is the
ART 106 Beginning Drawing. I learned how to use charcoal to draw and some
different kind of draw, such as perspective drawing, profile drawing, and patterns
drawing. Even though these are very basic techniques of drawing and only apply
black and white color, they are very significant to me. It’s the very first
hand drawing class I’ve ever taken in Chicago. To combine my ideas of design
and the design techniques that I learned from Depaul, I believe I can make it
very well.
My Art on the Egg project will have 5 groups of eggs with different scenarios,
such as beach, garden, road, home, box, etc. Each group is made up of six eggs.
With different scenarios, each group has different theme. The theme of the
first group is Typography, which is combining my mother language Chinese and
English to draw on the egg. For the second group I will draw different facial
expressions on the egg, such as surprise, scary, cute, etc. The third group I
will draw the patterns on the egg. The fourth group I will draw the shape of
each country on the map. For the fifth group, I’ll draw the outfit on the egg.
And each egg wears different hats or headwear, which is making by paper.
For the drawing process, I’ll
boiling eggs at first and then use pencil to make sketches on the egg. I’m
going to use pencil, acrylic color, watercolor, marker, pen, etc. I’ll shoot
the process of how I make these drawings on the egg and post them to my Tumblr
account as my final presentation. The size of the images will be 10.5x8.5 in. I’ll
give a printed card to my classmates, which shows my working progresses and the
final images of my project.
