Why Design?
Design, for me, came from a strong desire to make art and be creative, along with the need for practicality in my life. As someone who started studio arts young, I’ve been striving to make a career of something that allows me the ability to be creative but also something that was valuable and useful. I am someone who appreciates well-done and beautiful work. However, beautiful work for the sake of beautiful work often times quickly fades away, if it is not only beautiful but also meaningful or useful it becomes important. Our society is bombarded by visuals and it’s important to make those visuals meaningful. That to me is valuable and something that design can and should be. Design is something that can be innovative, it is something that surrounds everyone (good and bad) in many facets, and influences more than many realize. It’s something that I want to be a part of.
When I realized this was something I could pursue in my career and life, I was immediately intrigued. For me, I design because it is something that I am passionate about, it is something that I enjoy, and something that I want to be doing. On top of that, it is useful in our society and valuable. It allows for a variety of work and innovative ideas. It is creative and practical.
