Update

Thesis Proposal

Summary: I will produce a weekly web comic. It will be about a zoologist who is sent out into the world to help gather the DNA of every animal in the world for future research purposes. Every two months will highlight a different region in the world and each week will highlight a particular animal species. In addition to the comic, there will be a blog post underneath with a hand drawn picture of the featured animal and a short biography of it.

Concept: the purpose of this project is to be a fun educational tool to teach people about well-known and obscure animal species. When people learn about animals that they find interesting, they are more inclined to help in their conservation. Before I chose design as my major, I wanted to be a zoologist, or something of one.

Inspiration: I have always been interested in methods used for preserving endangered species, particularly the large DNA banks kept for research purposes. There has been talk recently of doing a more large scale DNA bank for all species and I wanted to highlight the subject.

Design Elements: I will be making my own website, illustrations, typeface, and business cards with QR link to the web comic.
